At Radiance Yoga our values are “Community, Compassion, Learning and Laughter”. One of our main goals is to connect with something larger than ourselves in both thoughts and actions.
We demonstrate this by giving back to our community. We choose local and International causes close to our hearts and provide support through donation-based classes, alliances with non-profit organizations, volunteering for numerous events and programs, donating items for use or auction, and helping to spread the word through any of our physical and online presences.
Thank you so much to all who came to, and donated to, the Karma Yoga class on Saturday with Aviva to raise money to provide emergency services and aid to families in Turkey. We are thrilled to announce that we raised $1100 for the Earthquake Relief Fund, and Radiance rounded up the donation to $1500 and sent it to the American Turkish Association of D.C.
Thousands of people have been killed and tens of thousands more injured after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey on two weeks ago. Since the earthquake there have been hundreds of aftershocks, including a 6.3 magnitude one yesterday killing six more people and injuring hundreds more. Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected by these devastating events
In addition, we would like to highlight that local business The Turkish Coffee Lady, located at 1001 King Street, in Old Town Alexandria, is also collecting supplies for earthquake victims in Turkey. Below is a list of in-kind donations currently being accepted, which the Turkish Embassy and Turkish Airlines will be transporting in a speedy and prioritized manner:
Donations can be dropped off at The Turkish Coffee Lady on King Street. Please make sure to place your items in clear bags or boxes, and list all the items in detail and tape them on the bags or boxes.
